Scandal-plagued Foxconn celebrated the shift of its subsidiary, Futaihua Precision Electronics Co. Ltd., to Henan Province's capital, Zhengzhou, on August 2, and announced a new stage of cooperation with the local government.

It's the first Foxconn operation in Zhengzhou, with 544 employees from Shenzhen, and another 300 will check in tomorrow. Employees can expect a monthly income of 2,500 to 3,000 yuan, according to a recruitment advertisement in many residential areas of Henan.

The pay is approximately the same as Foxconn's plants in Shenzhen city of south China's Guangdong Province, a worker said, but pointed out the lower cost of living in Zhengzhou.

Foxconn employs 800,000 workers in Chinese mainland and is one of the largest OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) enterprises. It moved to Henan because the anticipated new plant will save a lot of the migrant laborers from working away from their families.

An official report shows the project is composed of seven standard factories of 62,500 square meters located at the Export Processing Zone in Zhengzhou. If the operation goes smoothly, 8,000 workers will be needed, and the output value will reach $35 million.

With an investment of $12 million, the company got registration approval by Zhengzhou Administration for Industry and Commerce on July 5. Its production and operating activities include 3G Mobile Technology, a mobile telephone base station, 3G core network equipment, and network test equipment as well as parts and tools, new types of electronic components and the design and production involving the metal and non-metal models.
