Apple unveils iPad-inspired MacBook Air

Apple Inc CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the thinnest, lightest Mac laptop yet, fusing features from its popular iPhone and iPad with its traditional line of personal computers, Reuters reported Thursday.

An 11.6-inch (29.5-centimeter) model starts at 7,998 yuan ($1,202) in Chinese mainland, slightly higher than $999 in the US. This thinner MacBook Air weighs as little as 2.3 pounds (1 kg), and measures 0.11 inches (0.28 centimeters) at its thinnest to 0.68 inches at the rear.

The 13.3-inch model starts at 10,498 yuan ($1,579), compared wtih $1,299 in the US.

Apple does not imediatly offer these latest models at its online store for the Chinese mainland.

But they are now abvailable in the online store for Hong Kong at a lower price. The 11.6-inch model starts at HK$7,588 ($977) with free shipping, and the 13.3-inch one starts at HK$9,888 ($1,274).

Electronics manufacture Foxconn Technology Group makes Apple's iPhones, iPads on Chinese mainland.

Apple's iPad came to Chinese mainland on Sept 13, 51 days after it was launched in Hong Kong on July 23.
