Volvo and Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co. said Friday it would recall 24,660 vehicles in China to fix problems that could pose safety risks.

The recall, which is set to begin Nov. 8, affects 4,559 imported XC60 T6 vehicles manufactured between Nov. 20, 2009 and June 11, 2010 and 6,852 China-made S80L autos manufactured between Dec. 15, 2009 and July 15, 2010, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement on its website.

The auto makers said a faulty wiring connector in the air bag system of the affected cars might prevent the front air bag from protecting the driver during a crash.

The auto makers are also planning to recall 13,249 China-made S80L models produced between Feb. 23, 2009 and May 25, 2010, as faulty steering fluid hoses might leak fluid on the engine, potentially causing a fire.

The statement said owners could contact the auto makers at hotline numbers 400-678-1200 or 010-59799616. Manufacturers will repair the faulty system and components at no charge.
