Nissan Motor Co.'s sales in the Chinese market surged 33 percent from last year, selling 113,000 units in January, China Securities Journal reported Wednesday.

Dongfeng-Nissan, Nissan's joint venture with China's Dongfeng Motors, sold a record 75,318 units in January, up 25 percent from last year.

In 2010, China overtook the United States and became Nissan's largest market. The Japanese automaker's sales volume in China reached 1.02 million units in 2010, up 35.5 percent from a year ago.

Nissan set its 2011 sales target at 1.15 million units.
