The devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan last week may disrupt auto production at two joint ventures in central China's Hubei Province -- Dongfeng Nissan and Dongfeng Honda, sources with the two companies said Thursday.

Though the two plants remain operational, their management feared production and sales might be affected starting in April due to disruptions of imported parts.

Dongfeng Honda said it had enough parts inventory to sustain production for the rest of this month, but parts supplies for April were uncertain.

Both plants are in close contact with their headquarters in Japan, hoping to minimize the impact.

Japan is Wuhan's leading trade partner, with last year's two-way trade totaling 2.19 billion U.S. dollars, according to the city's commerce bureau.
