As a source of inexpensive wind power equipment, China is "very likely" to benefit from a new EU policy that will invest 400 billion euros in wind power over the next 20 years, Shanghai Security News reports.

EU officials began discussing its energy policy after Japan's nuclear energy plant accidents, painting a rosy future for wind power.

Although the EU has always been a leader in the wind power industry, other countries have gained ground by boosting efforts to install more wind power capacity. In 2009, North American countries installed 39.3 percent new capacity, and Asian countries saw 30 percent more capacity. Meanwhile, European countries trailed behind at 28.2 percent.

According to the EU's 2030 renewable energy target, wind power will account for 28.5 percent of its electricity generation, and 45 percent of energy consumption will come from renewable energy.

Rough statistics showed that the exports of China's wind power equipment were almost nine times more than that in 2010, and orders for 2011 rose 763 percent compared with 2010, providing a strong prospect for China's wind power equipment makers, said Niu Jigang, an analyst at Donghai Securities.

China's business press carried the story above on Friday. China.org.cn has not checked the stories and does not vouch for their accuracy.
