Chinese shares edge up after manufacturing data

Chinese shares edged up on Wednesday after a reading of the country's manufacturing sector continued to slow in May at a rate that was within expectation.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed almost flat at 2,743.57. The Shenzhen Component Index inched up 0.3 percent, or 34.69 points, to 11,699.83.
