Gaopeng.com cuts staff

Chinese group buying site Gaopeng.com has begun to cut employees, the 21st China Business Herald quoted company insiders as saying. 8
"The company has been laying off employees almost every week recently," a middle manager at the firm told the 21st China Business Herald. The cuts began in July and are still ongoing, the manager said.
"We're not firing a large number of Chinese staff. We are just experiencing a reshuffling of personnel," said Ouyang Yun, chief operating officer of Gaopeng.com. "Only some of the sales personnel have been dismissed for poor performance."
Groupon launched Gaopeng.com in January this year as a joint venture with Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings. The website was opened in February. The joint venture's management team was brought in from German subsidiary MyCityDeal, which Groupon acquired in March 2009. The team is now in charge of Groupon's expansion overseas.
Gaopeng is spending 15 million yuan per month – a large proportion of Gaopeng's monthly sales revenue – on ads, according to Marbridge Consulting.
