Hiroshi Yamauchi was the third president of Nintendo. He took over the company in 1949 from his grandfather and transformed it from a maker of playing cards into one of the world's most successful video game companies. Hiroshi Yamauchi stepped down in 2002 and was succeeded by his son-in-law Satoru Iwata.
