A former public relations employee of PSA Peugeot Citroën China has been indicted by a Beijing court for allegedly embezzling more than a million yuan in company money.

Jin Hong, former head of PSA China's public relations department, has been charged by the Chaoyang District People's Court of Beijing with pilfering more than 1.21 milion yuan (US$189,000) from March to December 2009.

The case is the country's first to involve a public relations employee from the automobile industry.

From November 2009 to January 2010, Jin was also found embezzling 120,000 yuan (US$19,000) from a PSA research project. She later returned the money after the embezzlement was discovered.

She was detained by Chinese police in March. PSA has refused to comment on the case.

China's business press carried the story above on Thursday.
