China on Monday reiterated its support for the efforts of the EU, eurozone and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in dealing with the ongoing sovereign debt crisis.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin made the comment in response to a question regarding China's opinion of the nomination of new government administrations in Greece and Italy.

"We have noticed relevant media reports," said Liu, stating that the changing governments in Greece and Italy are considered to be part of the internal affairs of both countries.

Liu said he hopes relevant countries, as well as the EU as a whole, will overcome their current difficulties and promote economic recovery and growth as soon as possible.

Greece's new coalition government, headed by former European Central Bank Vice President Lucas Papademos, was sworn in on Friday.

Italian President Giorgio Napolitano on Sunday appointed former EU Commissioner Mario Monti to head an emergency government after Silvio Berlusconi resigned on Saturday night.
