The former chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission, Liu Mingkang, will be teaching international finance supervision at Sun Yat-Sen University in the spring of next year, media reported yesterday.

Sun Yat-Sen University confirmed to Caixin Online that it has hired Liu as a professor and honorary dean of its Lingnan College.

Liu led the CBRC as its first chairman for eight years since 2003 before he was succeeded by Shang Fuling in November.

During his tenure at the CBRC, Liu promoted the reform of China's State-owned banks and helped to build the framework of capital and risk supervision for the banking industry.

Prior to being the top banking regulator Liu was president of the Bank of China and completed the lender's Hong Kong's reorganization and initial public offering.
