Wang Hongzhang, left pictured, and Jiang Chaoliang are appointed as chairmen of the China Construction Bank and Agricultural Bank of China.

China Construction Bank appointed Wang Hongzhang as its new chairman, while Agricultural Bank of China filled its chairman's seat with Jiang Chaoliang, according to statements filed by each bank to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Monday.

Both chairmen assumed their posts as of the announcements on Monday, according to the banks' statements.

CCB and AgBank are two of China's largest state-owned lenders.

Wang, 58, was previously the chief disciplinary officer at the People's Bank of China since 2003. He filled the vacancy left by CCB's former chairman Guo Shuqing, who was appointed chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission in October 2011.

Jiang, 55, once acted as chairman of the Bank of Communications and chief of China Development Bank. He replaced AgBank's former chairman Xiang Junbo, who was appointed as chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission in October 2011.

China's business press carried the story above on Tuesday.
