Chinese shares opened higher on Friday, the last trading day in the Year of Rabbit, after slumping more than 17 percent in the past Chinese lunar year.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.19 percent, or 4.43 points, to open at 2,300.5.
The Shenzhen Component Index opened at 9,348.45, up 0.52 percent, or 48.23 points.
Trading will stop during the upcoming week-long holiday celebrating the Spring Festival, which falls on Jan. 23 this year.
