IMF chief to visit China, India on economic issues

The International Monetary Fund (IMF)'s Managing Director Christine Lagarde was scheduled to visit China and India later this month to attend several international conferences and conduct discussions with officials of the two nations on major economic issues, the IMF said on Thursday.
Lagarde will be in China on March 17-18 and will participate in the China Development Forum and meet with senior government officials, IMF chief spokesman Gerry Rice said Thursday at a regular press briefing.
The IMF chief will discuss with senior Chinese officials on a broad range of important issues including the state of the global economy, the implications of the eurozone crisis for Asia and for China, the status of progress in the Chinese economy and the joint effort supported by the IMF members to strengthen the global firewall against potential contagion.
She will visit India on March 19-20 to meet with high-ranking government officials and attend a conference on "China and India -- Sustaining High Quality Growth" co-hosted by the IMF, China and India, added Rice, director of the IMF's External Relations Department.
