Preparations are underway for part one of the 2012 Mega Show trade fair, which is scheduled to kick off in Hong Kong this October.

The highly influential sourcing trade show links sellers with buyers and showcases a comprehensive selection of well-priced products designed and produced in Asia and sold worldwide.

Since the first show opened in 1992 with 147 exhibitors and 13,500 trade buyers, it has grown into a one-stop showcase of more than 5,257 stands displaying products from nearly 3,600 Asian and international exhibitors. The show expects 55,000 trade buyers this year.

Kenfair Exhibition Ltd, one of Hong Kong's most established exhibition management companies, has hosted the Mega Show every October for the past 20 years.

Duncan Cheung, Kenfair's managing director, said: "We are very proud of the contribution that Mega Show has made to the sourcing industry. We believe that the growth of the show reflects the innovation and quality that Asian suppliers now deliver globally."

Betty Chan, CEO of the Tiger Enterprise Corporation, said: "The Mega Show has become the most important trade show for our company. The show dateline is advantageous because it fits with our production cycle for launching new products."

Kenfair has announced Mega Show Part I will run from Oct 20 to Oct 23 this year at the award-winning Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

Mega Show Part I this year will feature gifts; housewares and home decorations; Christmas, festive, and seasonal toys and games; items for babies and children, and gift-wrapping and packaging.

The show will host international suppliers, including group pavilions from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.

The show's organizers vowed to improve its quality to live up to the high standards set in years past.

The organizing committee this year will reflect the financial needs of participants. It plans to design travel and accommodation packages that provide value for those buyers traveling from far away.

Additionally organizers are formulating ways to facilitate pre-show communication between buyers and exhibitors, and they are working on the 2012 edition of the popular and informative online preview the Source Book.

The clearly defined product sectors that have been part of the shows for the past two years have been further enhanced to ensure buyers and sellers maximize the potential benefits from participating.

The Mega Show Part I last year attracted more than 65,000 buyers despite the difficult economic environment in 2011.
