Apple China has refuted a rumor posted on knowyourmobile.com that its much-anticipated iPhone5 mobile phone will be released on August 7.

The China branch of the US technology giant said it had not received any news of the launch date for the iPhone5 from its American headquarter office.

Technology watchers have widely speculated that iPhone5 will be launched in October this year, which would mark exactly one year since the launch of the previous generation.

In addition, Apple launched the updated mobile operating system iOS6 in June. The new system will go on sale in October, corresponding with the release dates for the iOS5 and iPhone4S around the same time last year.

Generally, it has taken over a year to release each new generation of iPhone. It has been five years since the release of the first-generation iPhone.
