Mobile games, especially multiplayer online games, will be money-spinners for developers in China from next year onwards, amid surging demand and thanks to the popularity of low-cost smartphones, it was suggested at a mobile Internet forum Tuesday.

Mobile game firms like WiStone and XD.com now have a monthly income of up to 100 million yuan (US$15.9 million). And an increasing number of firms will cash in through various mobile games, industry officials told the one-day China Mobile Internet Industry Investment Forum held in Beijing yesterday.

At present, mobile Internet is a booming sector in China in terms of investment but brings limited income to developers, analysts said.

"Mobile games will alter the situation," said Ni Zhengdong, founder and chief executive of Zero2IPO, a Beijing-based investment research firm.

Investment in the mobile Internet industry remained stable in the first half despite falling investment in other industries like construction, education and consumer-related sectors, Ni told the forum.

Compared with the current popular titles like Draw Something with simple features and function, multiplayer online games are expected to grow starting from the second half of this year, venture capital investors and developers said.
