October natural gas output rises 7.3%

China produced 8.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas in October, up 7.3 percent year on year, the National Development and Reform Commission said yesterday.

Apparent consumption of natural gas rose 12.7 percent from the previous year to 12.4 billion cubic meters last month, the top economic planner said.

China, one of the world's top energy users, imported 3.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas, up 26.4 percent from the same period of last year.

In the first 10 months of this year, China's gas output added 6.4 percent from a year ago to 87.8 billion cubic meters. The gain was faster than the 6.2 percent rise between January and September.

Natural gas imports surged 37.6 percent year on year to 34.4 billion cubic meters in the first 10 months - faster than the 35.5 percent rise in the January-September period, the NDRC said.

Apparent use of natural gas rose 14.1 percent from the previous year to 118.7 billion cubic meters in the first 10 months, up from the 13.6 percent gain in the first nine months.
