Apple Inc. may release its next generation of iPhone on September 6, said German blog iFun, citing a "credible and very serious source."

The source also claimed that a second and cheaper model of iPhone, which were referred to as "iPhone 5C" will also be released alongside.

Apple has released a new handset every year since it announced the first iPhone in 2007.

The technology giant has so far introduced six models - iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5. The first four models were unveiled in June and went on sale around a week or so later. The latter two were released in October 2011 and September 2012, respectively.

Previous rumors said iPhone 5S might be released in August. The new Apple iPhone 5S would look more or less the same as the iPhone 5 but with a faster processor and an improved camera, technology blog iMore has claimed.
