Premier League clubs spent a total of £630m in the summer transfer window, setting a new record after the £500 million set in 2008, according to Deloitte's latest data.

The transfer window closed at 23:00 BST on Monday.

Two big deals were announced on the transfer deadline day, including Arsenal's signing of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £42.4 million and Manchester United's signing of Marouane Fellaini for £27.5million from Everton.

"This summer looks set to be a record for the Premier League in gross, and quite possibly also net transfer spending," said Dan Jones, partner in Deloitte's Sports Business Group.

The highest transfer fee was set by Gareth Bale, who was sold to Real Madrid by Tottenham Hotspur for £85.3 million.

A major reason for Premier League clubs' surging spending is their latest three-year global television deal, which have taken effect this season.
