PetroChina probe expands to Indonesia

Chinese authorities are investigating the former head of PetroChina Co's Indonesian operations, media reports said, as a corruption probe into the energy giant expanded into its overseas operations.
Wei Zhigang was removed as general manager of the Indonesian unit by PetroChina several weeks ago amid the government investigation, Reuters said on Wednesday.
A company spokesman said he's not aware of any investigation into Wei, who has been succeeded by Xue Liangqing, former chief geologist of PetroChina's international exploration and production unit.
While authorities haven't provided details of their probe, only saying these executives were being investigated for ‘‘severe disciplinary violations'', such phrasing often refers to corruption.
If the investigation into Wei was confirmed, he would be the first from PetroChina's foreign operations to be implicated in the unfolding corruption scandal that began in late August and has brought down a number of former senior executives, including former Chairman Jiang Jiemin.
