Every two years Photokina, the world’s leading imaging fair, presents image media, imaging techniques and image markets in Cologne. It brings together not only industry, commercial and professional users but also enthusiastic photography end consumers all over the world.

This year, the offerings related to action cameras, filming with photo cameras and simple networking between devices and with the Internet will be among the top themes of the fair, said Katharina C. Hamma, chief operating officer of Koelnmesse, at a Photokina press conference in Beijing yesterday.

Action cams, smart phones and the question of how items of equipment can be connected together and connected to the Internet are further focal themes that will be in the center of interest at the coming fair. These are themes that will give young people a completely new insight into photography.

Photokina 2014, with its motto “Photography is more than technology,” will also refresh its visitors with five thematic worlds, said Hamma. “These five worlds will address the emotional aspect of photography more strongly than before.”

The five worlds include "Capture your world" (cameras, lenses and equipment), "light up your world" (lighting, flashes and tripods), "share your world" (storage, connection and transfer of images and data), and "create your world" (input, editing and processing).

According to Hamma, Photokina 2014 will also hold seminars, forums and photo exhibitions to cater to the needs of professions and amateurs. It will include workshops, photography shoots, competitions, lectures and panel discussions as well as numerous activity areas inside and outside the exhibition.

In 2012, Photokina registered about 185,000 visitors from 166 countries, a clear increase in comparison with previous events. It attracted 97 Chinese companies among its total 1,158 exhibitors.
