A hundred iEV electrically operated motor cars made in China were shipped to the United States from the port of Hefei, Anhui Province, on Thursday, the first penetration of this fiercely-competitive market by "new energy" cars made in China., the China Business News reported.

The vehicles were produced by a cooperative project started at the end of 2012 between the China Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as JAC) and the Green Tech Automotive Inc. (GTA) of the United States.

Charlie Paglee, chief procurement officer of GTA, described it as a memorable day when American electric vehicle manufacturers first felt pressure from a rival.

After more than one year of business negotiation, technology transfer and product improvement, the two sides formally signed a framework agreement in August on the export of 2,000 electrically-operated cars to the United States.

According to the agreement, the remaining 1,900 cars will be shipped within a year, said She Cairong, Deputy General Manager of JAC, who explained the current shipment was based on JAC’s fourth generation power system. "They are four-seat sedans with electrically controlled software and battery charging system to meet the special requirements of American consumers".

Wang Xiaolin, Board Chairman and CEO of JAC, said total US sales of new energy cars exceeded 90,000 last year, making America the world’s second largest market, compared to only 17,000 in China. "The United States is a country with strong consumption capacity and extreme openness and inclusiveness as well," he said.

According to the JAC-GTA agreement, the two sides will also cooperate in developing more electrical cars in accordance with American market standards. GTA will assemble them based on Chinese-supplied parts at its Mississippi factory for domestic sale.

Founded in 1964, JAC listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2001 with the stock code of 600418. After nearly 50 years of development, it has developed into a forefront of China's auto industry, with annual vehicle production capacity reaching 700,000 units.
