General Electric Company (GE) has opened a headquarters in Shanghai to serve the Asia-Pacific region.

The "Global Operations Center" (GOC), one of five such facilities operated by GE, will simplify the company's business by integrating services for 16 countries including Japan, the Republic of Korea and Australia into one place.

Situated in Pudong New District to tap the favorable trade policies of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, the GOC will "become GE's capital processing center across the entire Asia-Pacific area," said Tu Ming, who is in charge of the center.

GE plans to recruit 1,000 staff to work in the GOC over the next two years.
