Dell launched a series of storage products more oriented to the Chinese market on Wednesday, May 13 in Beijing, a move that intended to expand its presence in the fierce market of enterprise-class products.

The new range of products will include the entry-level Dell Storage SCv2000 series, which will be priced from 96,000 yuan (US$15,476) for each storage array, and will target small and mid-sized businesses.

Dell's Greater China manager of storage Li Haiping said at the product launch that the launch of the new higher performance products was a response to a slowdown in IT budgets in the business sector.

"The growth of IT is always slower than that of a company's business, requiring CIOs to think harder about how to manage their limited resources," Li said.

Dell entered the enterprise-class storage business in 2008 after acquiring EqualLogic, a rising competitor in the sector. Amid international rivals such as IBM and HDS and Chinese main players such as Huawei and Inspur, Dell has been marginalized in the enterprise-class storage market, although it made the Chinese government procurement list of enterprises, allowing it to gain a decent share of the business computers and server products market in China.
