Apple to focus on environmental safety

Apple will focus on environmental protection and sustainable growth as the US technoloogy giant continues on its path toward becoming a responsible corporate citizen, Chief Executive Tim Cook said on a visit to Shanghai yesterday.

Cook, on the last stop during his sixth visit to China, met Shanghai Party Secretary Han Zheng and visited Apple Store on Nanjing Road East, one of four Apple Stores in the city. Cook visited a new "breathtaking store" in Hanzhou on Wednesday.

He said Apple grew with the city when it set up its footprint in Shanghai in 2001.

Cook vowed that Apple will continue to do research and development while paying attention to environmental protection and sustainable growth. He also said Apple aims to be a role model.

Han said Apple has an impressive history of innovation and that Shanghai aims to become a globally innovative city. He encourages Apple to develop further in the city.
