DIDI Kuaidi Co, a merger of China's two most popular taxi-hailing applications, said it will collaborate with BAIC Motor Co on smart technologies and new-energy vehicles.

The strategic agreement will help the two partners leverage big data capabilities and car manufacturing resources to collaborate further in other areas, including car sales and vehicle after-sales service maintenance.

"Didi Kuaidi's capability to analyze commuters' data can be of great help for BAIC's move into smart vehicles and connected cars and new initiatives using the Internet," BAIC Chairman Xu Heyi said in a statement yesterday.

Since the merger in February, Didi Kuaidi has been expanding its offerings, including launching a limousine service and car pooling.

Didi Kuaidi will also offer a corporate service for BAIC's employees to access taxis and limousines easily from their smartphone apps.

More than 1,000 firms have opened corporate accounts on Didi Kuaidi.
