Amazon will sell the next-generation Kindle product, the world's most popular e-book reader, from June 30 globally, the company said Thursday.
The new Kindle Paperwhite features a new screen with the “highest-resolution display,” double memory capacity and new fonts and typesetting for a better reading experience, the company said.
The device will cost 958 yuan (US$154) and available on Amazon China and Tmall websites from June 30. Consumers could pre-order the new model from yesterday.
Amazon has added “our highest-resolution display so the words are crisp and clear on the page,” CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement.
The device features a screen with resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch) and 4 gigabytes of memory, both double the previous model.
The new Paperwhite also has a language-learning feature and social functions such as supporting Sina's Weibo services in China.
Amazon China now offers domestic consumers 230,000 Chinese-language e-books, 12,000 of them free.
