China and Georgia have launched negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA), China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said on Thursday.

A memorandum of understanding was signed by the MOC and Georgia's economic department to begin the talks, the ministry said in a brief statement.

The two sides have completed a feasibility study which showed how the FTA will boost trade between the two countries, according to an MOC statement.

China is now Georgia's third-largest trading partner globally and second-largest source of imports.
