The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between China and Iceland took effect on July 1, 2014. Iceland is the first developed European country to recognize China as a full market economy as well as the first European country to negotiate a free trade agreement with China.

Under the agreement, nearly 96% of products are subject to zero tariffs in terms of tariff number, and nearly100% in terms of trade volume

The two countries started FTA negotiations in April 2007 and signed the agreement in April 2013 under the witness of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Iceland Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir.
