Daily desalination capacity increased by over 330-thousand tons and the annual growth rate of the maritime biological medicine sector reached about 20 percent.

In 2010, the central government approved Tianjin Municipality and the provinces of Shandong, Zhejiang, Guangdong and Fujian to pilot the development of the maritime economy.

The five regions contributed 67 percent of the country's total maritime GDP last year.
