Chinese internet giant Tencent's founder Ma Huateng, also known as Pony Ma, will donate 100 million company shares, worth more than US$2 billion, to a new charity fund.

The new fund deals with a range of causes in China including health, education and environmental conservation.

Pony Ma's move will be the largest donation of its kind ever an individual in China.

Rankings suggests Pony Ma is currently the 34th richest man in the world, with a net worth of over 20 billion US dollars.

In 2014, Jack Ma and Joe Tsai, founders of Alibaba, also promised to establish a philanthropic trust funded through Alibaba shares.
