A new train purchased from China by State Railway of Thailand (SRT) was launched on August 29 with a short trip, which is the first new train for Thailand in 20 years.

SRT has signed a 4.98 billion baht (US$143 million) deal to buy 115 new carriages from China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation's Changchun Railway Vehicles Co Ltd.

SRT will run Chinese-made trains on the Bangkok-Chiang Mai route in October and on three other routes.
