China said cooperation benefits all, while confrontation brings only harm for Sino-U.S. economic and commercial cooperation. "I believe both China and the U.S. can deal with issues in bilateral economic and commercial relations through dialogue and cooperation, and we hope the new U.S. government will continue to promote Sino-U.S. economic and commercial relations and bring benefits to people on both sides," said Sun Jiwen, the spokesman of Ministry of Commerce of China at a regular news briefing on Jan. 19.

Sun said that the amount of Sino-U.S. trade has been increased by 211 times, from US$2.5 billion in 1979 to US$516.9 billion in 2016. Bilateral investment has also increased. The amount of bilateral investment was over US$170 billion by the end of 2016. Sun said that the Sino-U.S. economic relationship is the foundation of the bilateral ties between China and the U.S.

According to a report released by the U.S. China Business Council and Oxford University, bilateral trade and investment between China and the U.S. has created about 2.6 million jobs for the U.S. and contributed US$216 billion to economic growth in the U.S., accounting for 1.2 percent of U.S. GDP in 2015. Due to imported goods from China, the consumer prices in the U.S. have been reduced by 1-1.5 percent. The average income of a typical U.S. family was about US$ 56,500 in 2015, and US$850 can be saved from the Sino-U.S. trade.
