Courier giant ZTO Express signed a strategic agreement with central China's Henan Province Airport Group to build an air delivery distribution center, the airport group announced Tuesday.

Work on the distribution center is expected to start in August, officials with ZTO Express said, adding that the move is conducive to helping the company expand its air delivery business size and gain market share in fast international shipping, cross-border e-commerce and cold-chain logistics.

Cargo throughput at the Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport in Henan reached 457,000 tonnes last year, ranking 7th nationwide. It has become a hub airport with flights reaching Asia, Europe and America and other major destinations.

Cooperation with ZTO will help boost the rapid development of the province's air delivery industry and speed up industrial restructuring and upgrades, the airport said.

Founded in 2002, ZTO Express mainly provides parcel delivery services for e-commerce merchants on online shopping platforms.

It has more than 100,000 employees, 5,000 service stations, 59 distribution centers and 18,000 delivery cars in China. The company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in October 2016.
