Chinese Premier and German Chancellor witness Daimler AG become shareholder in BAIC BJEV

Witnessed by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on June 1, Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd. (BAIC) signed a framework agreement with its German partner Daimler AG (Daimler). As an important part of the agreement, Daimler will strategically invest in BAIC BJEV (Beijing Electronic Vehicle Co. Ltd.), a subsidiary of BAIC Group who focus on electronic vehicle market, to strengthen the cooperation in new energy vehicles and jointly promote the further development of the Chinese new energy vehicle market.

Jointly developing the Chinese New Energy Vehicle market

As one of the world's largest luxury car manufacturers, as well as the world's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, Daimler has got over 100 years’ experience in Car Industry, strong R&D capabilities and world class intelligent. Daimler expressed high interest NEV market, especially electronic car market. Both Daimler and BAIC Group expressed the strong wish of developing NEV market in the future. The ceremony also demonstrated the recognition of BAIC BJEV’s successful penetration and development in China NEW market.

BAIC BJEV, established in 2009, has made enormous progress on boosting China Electronic Car Market. It sold 52,187 electric vehicles in 2016, kept the championship in China electronic vehicle for the past 4 years. In China, BAIC BJEV has jointly built more than 30,000 charging piles across the country; established 3 different car sharing platforms in China, total member has reached 200,000. Now BAIC BJEV has grown up and become a promising green intelligent travel solution provider.

Hubertus Troska, a member of the Board of Management and CEO of Daimler Greater China, said, "China has become the world's largest new energy vehicle market. Daimler is committed to contributing to the further development of the Chinese electric vehicle market. The framework agreement signed today opened a new page for the new energy vehicle cooperation between the two sides.

Keeping going to implement the grand blueprint of Made in China 2025

Since the German government came up with "Industry 4.0" aimed to improve the intelligentization level of manufacturing, the new-generation of industrial revolution has begun. The Chinese government hammered out Made in China 2025 in 2015, which is China's first decade blueprint since it implemented the strategy of manufacturing power. The new energy vehicle development was listed as one of 10 key fields and became part of the National Industrial Strategy.

Germany is one of the world's top car powers. In June 2016, Rainer Baake, Deputy Federal Minister of Economic Affairs, put forward a new regulation that all newly-registered vehicles must be up to zero emission standards by 2030. Germany is setting an example to fulfill the EU emission reduction target 2050. Daimler is a representative internationally influential automaker in Germany.

China is currently the largest auto market in the world; BAIC is one of China's core automotive groups. In the new energy field representing the future of the auto industry, BAIC is not only an executor but also an explorer. The cooperation between the representative enterprises in China and Germany is meaningful. Just as Xu Heyi, Chairman of BAIC Group, said, "Agreement signing is a significant step towards the future in the new energy vehicle field. The two sides will employ respective advantages in new energy vehicle technology and market cooperation, to achieve win-win, and endeavor to become a practical model for the strategic linkage of 'Made in China 2025' and 'German Industry 4.0'."

The framework agreement signed by the representative enterprises from China and Germany in the presence of the Chinese Premier and the German Chancellor marks a milestone. It is of great practical significance to promoting the development of China's new energy industry, building a green and environmentally-friendly well-off society, promoting the implementation of the German and EU 2050 emission reduction targets, and making Europe greener, more environmentally-friendly and humanized.
