A manufacturer of charging cables is apparently suing Apple for the sum of just 1 yuan (£0.12).

A few weeks ago, I left home in the evening for a long flight, which was to culminate in an even longer drive through the night in a foreign country to reach my destination.

I needed my Apple phone for navigation, but had forgotten to pack my charging cable. The cable I was using at the time cost me the reasonable sum of £1 (8.5 yuan).

At the airport, a third party cable cost me seventeen times that amount - and a genuine Apple one would have been thirty times more.

As an aside, the ludicrously expensive airport cable broke shortly afterwards, whilst my £1 one is still going strong!

Apple's cables are notoriously expensive, and the company has been making it more difficult for third parties to manufacture them.

That's led one third party to firm apparently to launch an unusual law suit against Apple.

Pisen, which is based in Shenzhen, is said to have launched the action over the fact that Apple has apparently refused to certify some of Pisen's products.

This means that they might not work when inserted into devices, even though Pisen has a good track record of producing quality products.

Apple claims that uncertified cabled could be dangerous.

Of course, the sum of 1 yuan isn't the issue here - the legal case, which according to specialist publication The Register has been filed in Beijing, is more about trying to set a legal precedent.

It will certainly be an interesting case to follow.
