Macao's gaming industry has recorded an improvement in its business performance last year, with the total revenue of 10 enterprises that engaged in gaming activities amounted to 229.00 billion patacas (28.44 billion U.S. dollars) in 2016, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said on Friday.

The year-on-year decrease in Macao's gaming revenue narrowed notably from 34.3 percent in 2015 to 1.8 percent in 2016, the DSEC said in its survey.

The gross surplus of the gaming sector last year reached 135.58 billion patacas (16.83 billion U.S. dollars), up slightly by 0.6 percent, reversing from the declining trend in previous years.

With the successive completion of large-scale tourism and gaming facilities in 2016, the gross fixed capital formation of the gaming sector surged by 170.1 percent year-on-year to 7.43 billion patacas (922.8 million U.S. dollars), owing to the notable increase in acquisition of buildings and electronic gaming equipment.
