Covering an area of 5,780 square meters, the expo features the most innovative and cutting-edge products in green technology, ranging from environmental-friendly automobiles and households, biochemistry, new materials, green manufacturing technology, green textile and printing, to green finance and healthcare.

Liu Yanhua, counselor of the State Council and former vice minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, addressed the opening ceremony of the Green Expo: "Currently, green production and consumption is becoming the new driver for a green and low-carbon economy. In order to further our collaboration on the green economy, we shall make full use of this Green Expo and its symposium as a platform to further share the latest technologies in environmental protection."

Since its inception in 2013, the Green Expo has been held annually for five consecutive years. This year's event took place from Dec.9 to Dec. 11 in Suining, and hosted various activities, including a green technology exhibition and an investment promotion conference on green technology and green life, to provide a platform for enterprises at home and abroad to share the latest green technologies and foster cooperation in green economy.

In an effort to improve people's awareness on environmental protection and pursue a green, low-carbon, circular and sustainable way of life and production, the expo and forum shed light on the key role that the green economy and technology can and does play in adjusting the industrial structure, supporting low-carbon energy consumption and improving people's livelihood in a green and sustainable way, officials from Green Economy Development Office of Suining City said.

Zhou Ting, an exhibitor at the Green Expo told China.org.cn that their company builds environmentally-friendly houses for people who live in rural areas as well as constructing temporary housing in earthquake disaster areas.

"The basic material for our residence is light-gauge steel, which is lighter and more 'renewable' in terms of construction. Compared to traditional materials such as tiles and bricks, it could save at least eight to ten percent of the housing area. And roughly 80 percent of these new-type materials could be reused and recycled," Zhou said.

In the aftermath of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan Province, Zhou's company donated nearly 3-million-yuan worth of light-gauge steel joist and sent professionals to construct temporary housing in disaster areas, which saved labor and time.

The China (Suining) Green Expo is co-hosted by the Hedong New Area Management Committee of Suining City, Green Economy Development Office of Suining City and the International Green Economy Association (IGEA).

Suining is the first group of cities seeking green development in China and has deliberated over relevant policies to strive for a green, low-carbon, circular and sustainable way of production since 2007.

Zhou said that, with the Green Expo providing a platform to exchange the latest technologies for green development, companies at home and abroad should make full use of this opportunity to strengthen green technological and industrial cooperation which is helpful and beneficial for people to live a cleaner and greener life.
