The International Business Forum on Digital Empowermentand Borderless Business was held last Saturday in the Communication University (CUC) of China.

Centered on the theme of "Opening, Connecting, and Co-creating," this forum was the first of its kind to be co-organized by CUC and the University of South Carolina (USC) in the United States.

Working to the goal of "Build Platforms, Gain Consensus, and Seek Development", the forum focused on the development of cross-border e-commerce in the digital age, the further opening of the service industry to meet the demands of national and industrial development strategy, and innovations in international business talent development.

Professor Duan Peng, vice president of CUC, said in his opening speech that with the rapid development of China's digital economy, technologies, industrial convergence, and business models are changing, so there are new demands for the universities to improve their capacity and develop their personnel. He hoped that the two universities could jointly train more talent in international business and the digital economy.

Shan Zhiguang, director of the Department of Informatization and Industry Development of State Information Center, delivered a keynote speech. From the perspective of the national development strategy on the digital economy, he explained the concept and the trends of the digital economy, and how to use data to promote economic development.

Professor Sun Baowen, director of the China Center for Internet Economy Research in the Central University of Finance and Economics, shared with the audience his understanding of the essence of the digital economy. He defined the digital economy as a new economic form with information, knowledge and technology as the key factors, which can improve the efficiency and quality of economic operationsby optimizing and restructuring the whole process of production, consumption and circulation.

"It also brings new problems of supervision and governance, such as platform monopolies, unfair competition, protecting personal information, and confirming rights in online transaction data," Sun said. "Interconnection and intelligence are the two features of the era."
