Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will attend the opening ceremony of the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2010, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, slated for Sept. 13-15 in Tianjin, a northern China port city, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Thursday.

Jiang told a regular press briefing Wen will also address the opening ceremony of the meeting, to be hosted by the Davos-based World Economic Forum.

Some 1,451 people have registered to attend the meeting, Jiang said.

Senior leaders from Iceland, Moldova, Papua New Guinea, Zimbabwe, Mongolia, Bulgaria and Cambodia have confirmed their attendance at the meeting, she said.

The main theme of the 2010 Summer Davos Forum is promoting sustainable development, Jiang said.

China hopes the forum will send a positive signal to the world and call on the international community to strive for reform through coordination and innovation and promote a strong, sustainable and balanced growth in the world economy.

China also expects participants of the meeting to focus more on the issue of development and enhance international cooperation in this regard, Jiang said.
