Chinese President Hu Jintao met here on Saturday with Donald Tsang, chief executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Tsang briefed Hu on the recent economic development in Hong Kong and the improvement of Hong Kong people's livelihood, and thanked the central government for its care and support for the region's development.

He vowed to play an active role in the country's development and rejuvenation.

Hu highly appreciated the work of the Kong Kong SAR government since the start of this year. He said he was happy to see that Hong Kong's economy has maintained a strong recovery momentum with a vibrant financial market and notable growth in trade and tourism.

He hoped Tsang and the SAR government would build on these achievements and focus their energy on economic development to effectively improve people's livelihood, consolidate the fruits of their previous efforts to cope with the international financial crisis and push for economic recovery so as to create a favorable social atmosphere for all work.
