Demand for cars made by the Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. (GTMC), part of the Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group (GAIG), has not been affected by Toyota's recent recall crisis, GAIG general manager Zeng Qinghong said Tuesday.

"We used different car parts and different technologies from the ones with defects," said Zeng, who is also a deputy to the National People's Conference (NPC).

Toyota suffered a credibility crisis after various Toyota models, including Lexus, Camry and Prius, were found to have accelerator problems which could cause cars to speed out of control.

But according to Zeng, the crisis has yet to affect GTMC's car sales, noting that the company's production still "fell short of market demand."

He said China had seen an increasing number of car recall cases in recent years. More than three million defective cars have been recalled by over 50 domestic and overseas car manufacturers in China since 2004.

He added that GAIG was willing to cooperate with Toyota to help it regain brand credibility in China.

Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. was founded in September 2004 by GAIG and Toyota Motor Corporation, with each contributing 50 percent of the funding.
