Toyota Motor Corp. will begin to recall a total of 91,903 cars in Japan on Friday.

The Japanese automaker filed Monday with the transport ministry for the recall, which will cover seven Lexus models including LS600h, and the Toyota Crown.

The models subject to recall were made between July 27, 2005 and Aug. 21, 2008, local media reported. The company said the engine problem may lead to engine malfunction and could cause the car to stop while the vehicle is running.

The company said in its recall notice to the transport ministry it will fix the problem by replacing the defective valve springs with reinforced springs.

Toyota said it had received 220 complaints regarding the problem but no reports of accidents related to the defect.
