Strong earthquake hits sea area near Taiwan

An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit a sea area off Taiwan at 10:58 p.m. Sunday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was located at 21.1 degrees north latitude and 120.8 degrees east longitude, about 177 km to the south of Kaohsiung of Taiwan.

A 5.2-magnitude quake occurred in the same sea area at 5:35 a.m. Saturday, said the center.
