Traffic accidents in Macao drop 3%

Traffic accidents in Macao for the first half of this year reduced by three percent year-on-year to 6, 288 cases, according to the figures released on Wednesday by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) of the Special Administration Region (SAR).

The figures also showed that these accidents resulted in 2,123 victims, three of whom were killed.

At the end of June this year, number of licensed vehicles in the SAR totaled 179,857, an increase of six percent over the same period of last year, of which 53 percent (94,443) were motorcycles and 39 percent (71,043) were light private cars, according to the DSEC.

Meanwhile, new registration of vehicles decreased by four percent year-on-year to 10,404 in the first half of this year, with motorcycles and light vehicles accounting for 61 and 31 percent respectively.
