E-mail China.org.cn, June 27, 2013People are exposed to natural radioactive materials every day from space (cosmic rays) and the soil, water and air. There also are manmade sources of radiation, such as X-rays and CT scans.
The radiation dose is expressed in units called a sievert (Sv). On average, a person is exposed to about 3.0 millisieverts a year. The radiation from a CT scan amounts to about 11 mSv.
