Title: Give Full Play to the Media to Connect the Peoples Along the Belt and Road

Abstract

It has been three years since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed. Great achievements have been made in terms of policy coordination, planning, interconnected network, regional cooperation mechanism and cultural exchanges. The people-to- people connections have never been closer.

Media plays an increasing role in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative projects. Since September 2013, more than 10,000 articles relating to the Belt and Road Initiative have been published on mainstream media around the world. Tens of media forums and exchanges are held every year; and there are different sizes of media alliances formed under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. The in-depth reports on the Initiative have created favorable environment for countries along the routes to carry out projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Media’s role in the Belt and Road Initiative is multi-faceted. Media have multi- function when it comes to reports on the Belt and Road Initiative. It is a platform for information dissemination, for dialogue and communication, and for cooperation and interaction. Media should serve to connect the public institutions, private sectors and the society so as to bring positive energies to the people.

Various media organizations under China International Publishing Group have made some very significant experiment in telling interesting stories in countries along the land and maritime silk roads. We try to speak their languages to make our stories more relevant and engaging for people of other nations on the routes. At the same time, we are working closely with local media to share story ideas. We are also tapping into our historical connections with other countries to make the Silk Roads more relevant to peoples from different cultural backgrounds.
