Title: The Media Must Push Forward the Belt & Road Initiative with Sincere Efforts

Abstract

Chinese leadership has introduced the mega Belt and Road Initiative (the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road). Both projects are synchronized and are aimed to reshape the global economy with innovative and healthy trade and financial moves. The drive is set to not only enhance the national economies but also to reshape the personal economies of the individuals of all the nations involved. The study of the various projects that are going to be part of the mega initiative, clearly indicates that the move is by no means aimed at ensuring China or any other nation’s monopoly on financial and trade matters but it is actually having the center point of introducing strong personal economies of individuals and to set new living standards for

people. Therefore, in my opinion, the Belt and Road Initiative has emerged as a sincere

move for the welfare of the humanity and not to gain any financial or trade monopoly.

The Belt and Road Initiative reflects the Chinese leadership’s policy of inclusive development, shared prosperity and harmonious growth. This is based on the idea of mitigating the adversity of globalization and provides a comprehensive platform of sharing the fruits of progress. The initiative encompasses augmenting economic, trade, investment, academic, scientific, technological, cultural and people-to-people interactions among relevant countries.

Another major achievement and reason for an overwhelming response to the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and CPEC initiatives is that it seeks to integrate individual countries’ development plans. In finalizing the proposal, individual countries are outlining their economic and social development priorities and effort is being made to assimilate them in the overall initiative. Furthermore, issues of global concern such as climate change, maritime disaster prevention, prevention of maritime, aquaculture are also given priority. Existing bilateral and multilateral maritime cooperation regime would be utilized to build up a partnership and a new mechanism can also be evolved to best utilize maritime resources and support affiliated industries.

The phenomenon of globalization has seen bulk of trading being conducted through oceans. The need for better maritime connectivity in the 21st century is, therefore, of significant importance for the smooth flow of cargo. Huge investment in infrastructure would, however, be required to achieve this. China is already engaged with countries of the region in improvement of their port facilities as well as the downstream communication infrastructure. This engagement in building infrastructure including information network would prove to be a defining initiative as many countries in South East Asia, South Asia and Africa are cash strapped and are unable to finance in infrastructure and improvement.

The Daily Mail has also signed agreements of professional collaboration with top Chinese media organizations including China Daily, People’s Daily, Beijing Review, CRI, Yunnan Daily Press Group, Guangzhou Media Group, and Xinhua News Agency for cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative in particular and for promotion of bilateral ties in general.
